    SAFELAND Real-Time Simulation (RTS) @ DLR's Institute of Flight Guidance

    On the 1st week of May 2022, the SAFELAND team was gathered in the city of Braunschweig, Germany to conduct the Real-Time Simulation (RTS). The scope of the RTS was to evaluate the SAFELAND concept of operations aimed at ensuring a safe landing of a Single Piloted Aircraft in the event of onboard Pilot Incapacitation.

    SAFELAND Intermediate Review Meeting

    On September 15, the SAFELAND Intermediate Review meeting with SESAR Joint undertaking took place virtually. The meeting is a contractual obligation, but also gives the chance for a fruitful dialogue. Objectives of the meeting therefore were to meet with the project team, to update on the progress of the project, to discuss questions and concerns and, if needed, to find solutions.

    SAFELAND @ the 11th EASN conference

    On 2 September 2021, the 11th EASN International Conference hosted the session “Remotely piloted aircraft systems: SESAR Joint Undertaking”, dedicated to INVIRCAT, URClearED, CORUS-XUAM, PJ13 and SAFELAND projects. The session consisted of presentations followed by a round table chaired by SESAR Joint Undertaking program manager, Ms. Nil Agacdiken.

    The SAFELAND project has just released its first public deliverable, entitled "SAFELAND Final Concept"

    D1.4 deliverable describes the final SAFELAND concept aiming at providing a conceptual approach for handling the rare occurrence of onboard Single Pilot Operations Incapacitation. The document has evolved from previous work and deliverables within WP1 Definition of Concept, as well as from supporting activities conducted in WP3 Concept Evaluation.

    "Preliminary Evaluation" Workshop: 27 January 2021

    The SAFELAND Consortium was delighted to welcome the members of the SAFELAND Advisory Board (AB) in the SAFELAND Preliminary Evaluation Workshop, which took place virtually, on Wednesday, January 27th 2021, from 09.00 to 16.30 CET. The main aim of this event was for the SAFELAND Team to present to the AB members the initial concepts of operations developed for the situation of pilot incapacitation and to collect feedback, views, and comments from different professional perspectives, through this interaction.

    "Initial Concept" Workshop: 27 – 28 October 2020

    The initial version of the SAFELAND concept, with different implementation options in case of pilot incapacitation in Single Pilot Operations (SPO), was generated. During the workshop, three independent groups of the consortium worked on drafting and analyzing alternative approaches to handle single pilot incapacitation. Each group then refined their concepts by describing them in more detail and answered open questions raised during the workshop. A final integration and review of each concept was then carried out by all involved members of the consortium.

    SAFELAND @ 10th EASN Virtual Conference

    The COVID-19 pandemic, is a significant factor influencing the progress of organizing as well as carrying out scientific gatherings such as conferences and workshops! In this frame, this year, the well-known EASN International Conference went fully virtual for its 10th edition that was dedicated to “Innovation in Aviation & Space to the Satisfaction of the European Citizens”.
